AFC power rankings entering training camp

It’s the ideal time to evaluate the AFC power rankings. With training camp underway, we take a look at each team in the division.

16. Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins are in a complete rebuild. Unless there’s a total shock, Miami will be drafting within the top five come next April.

15. Cincinnati Bengals

The Bengals finally have a new coach. Unfortunately, much fo the roster from lsat year’s mess remains the same, including Andy Dalton.

14. Oakland Raiders

Oakland will eventually get it going, but this roster is lacking a proven quarterback, a defense of any note or a head coach who has won anything in 20 years.

13. Denver Broncos

Denver has a new coach and a new quarterback, but it remains to be seen if either is a notable upgrade over the men who came before them.

12. Buffalo Bills

The Bills need Josh Allen to become a quality quarterback. If that doesn’t happen, double-digit losses are on the way once again.

11. Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens now the AFC North last year, but Lamar Jackson really struggled to throw the ball. If the defense isn’t great again — and it lost a ton in the offseason — things could get ugly.

10. Tennessee Titans

Tennessee has to have much better performance out of Marcus Mariota to be competitive in the tough AFC South.

9. Jacksonville Jaguars

Jacksonville has a huge upgrade over Blake Bortles in Nick Foles. Now, the question is of his supporting cast. Can the Jaguars get back to the playoffs?

8. New York Jets

Sam Darnold has plenty help this season. If the Jets don’t at least threaten for the playoffs come late December, this season will have been a failure.

7. Pittsburgh Steelers

The Steelers are going unde the radar. They could make serious noise in the playoffs if they get there.

6. Houston Texans

Houston is being forgotten about in the AFC South. The Texans have plenty of stars and a history of regular-season success.

5. Cleveland Browns

No team has a bigger set of expectations than the Browns. After being doormats for the better part of 20 years, Cleveland is suddenly expected to be terrific.

4. Indianapolis Colts

Andrew Luck and Frank Reich are quite the tandem. If the rest of the roster can improve a bit, the Colts could be incredibly dangerous.

3. Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers might have the best roster in football. The question is whether they can finally win the division and then reach the Super Bowl.

2. New England Patriots

The Patriots are aiming for their fourth consecutive Super Bowl appearance. Not bad.

1. Kansas City Chiefs

It’s Super Bowl or bust for Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs.
