Alvin Kamara puts strain on Saints after testing positive for COVID-19

The Saints have already qualified for the playoffs ahead of their regular-season finale against the Carolina Panthers. However, things have got a bit more complicated in terms of their first playoff game. Star running back Alvin Kamara tested positive for COVID-19 this week, according to ESPN.

Kamara is having another stellar season with the Saints, posting an incredible 21 total touchdowns. This year, he’s been getting the job done both as a rusher and a receiver.

With Kamara currently being the team’s best offensive weapon and veteran superstar Drew Brees seemingly heading toward his final games in the NFL, the Saints were dealt a severe blow with the news of the positive COVID test.

The Saints offense depends on production from Kamara and if he’s unable to play in the team’s first and potentially final playoff game, it could prove costly for the franchise as they might not be able to contend with their opponent.

The one thing the Saints can hold out hope for is clinching the top seed in the NFC. That would give them a first-round bye and more time to clear Kamara for their first postseason showdown.

In order for this to happen, the Saints would need to beat the Panthers and hope for some help. The Chicago Bears would need to beat the Green Bay Packers and they’d also need the Seattle Seahawks to take down the San Francisco 49ers.

It’s not out of the realm of possibility that this happens, but it’ll be tough.
