Bears HC Ben Johnson Offers Candid Update on Caleb Williams Injury
Chicago Bears star quarterback Caleb Williams exited Sunday’s 9-3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings after suffering an apparent hamstring injury.
The injury occurred with over seven minutes left in the fourth quarter when Williams ran to his left on first-and-goal with open field to potentially score a touchdown. However, the USC product fell awkwardly after it appeared he was clipped on the heel by Vikings linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel.
Following the game, Van Ginkel said that he didn’t make contact with Williams.
The Bears’ second-year quarterback attempted to get back on his feet, but needed medical assistance to be helped off the field and was eventually taken back to the locker room on a cart.

Although more tests need to be conducted to determine the extent of Williams’ injury, head coach Ben Johnson voiced relief that it isn’t something more serious.
“I mean, you could kind of see in real-time,” Johnson said via ESPN. “I’m actually happy it’s nothing with the knee. That was my first inclination. But yeah, a hamstring can be pretty damaging as well. We’ll see how bad it is tomorrow, and we’ll go from there. It’s quickly you’ve got to turn the page.”
If Williams does miss extended time, the Bears will turn to Tyson Bagent to lead the charge. Bagent completed 5 of 9 passes for 54 yards in the loss to the Vikings. Chicago is set to play at home in Week 3 against the Philadelphia Eagles, with Bagent more than likely under center.
