Bears QB Nick Foles is the odds-on favorite to win starting QB job
The Chicago Bears have moved through the offseason with the telling signs that they are ready to move on from quarterback Mitchell Trubisky.
That has included bringing aboard veteran quarterback Nick Foles through a trade. With that in mind, the betting lines have shifted toward Foles being the favorite to earn the starting job for the 2020 campaign (H/T Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk)
Although the Bears have indicated that it’s an open competition with both quarterbacks getting an equal chance to earn the job, FanDuel currently lists Foles as a -320 favorite to win the starting job. Trubisky is a +200 underdog.
The fact Foles is already the betting favorite before even taking a snap in practice with the team speaks to the utter lack of confidence in Trubisky. The team has already also elected not to pick up the fifth-year option on his rookie deal for the 2021 season.
That had come to be expected, given his continued decline in his performance on the field. It puts him in the tight spot of having to prove that he can be a viable starting quarterback that can lead the Bears to success.
If he slips up yet again, Chicago has a proven commodity in Foles that has shown in the past that he can step in and succeed. The pressure is all on Trubisky shoulders as it could be his final opportunity to have a clear-cut starting spot for an NFL team moving forward in his career.
