Bengals star Ja’Marr Chase hit with one-game suspension
Cincinnati Bengals star wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase has been suspended for one game due to spitting on Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Jalen Ramsey.
Chase is appealing the suspension, and if it is upheld, he would miss the Week 12 action against the New England Patriots.
The incident happened during Sunday’s 34-12 loss to the Steelers. There is video evidence that shows Chase spitting in Ramsey’s direction, which led Ramsey to respond by throwing a punch at the All-Pro wideout.
If he misses the game, it would mean he would forfeit a weekly paycheck of $448,333 as well as a $58,823 active bonus. It’s a significant hit in the wallet that would take one of the game’s best players out of action for a crucial game to keep the Bengals moving toward contending for the playoffs.

After the game, Ramsey spoke about the incident, stating that it turned personal and away from the game of football once he saw Chase spit at him.
“I don’t give a f— about football after that, respectfully,” Ramsey told reporters after the game via ESPN. “I’m always going to be all for trash talking, s— talking, stuff like that. I actually enjoy that part of the game. I think people know that.”
Chase denied spitting on Ramsey while airing that the scuffle earlier in the game was provoked by the All-Pro defensive back taking his mouthpiece. That incident resulted in an offsetting unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on both players.
Chase is putting together another highly productive campaign, ranking first with 79 receptions, second with 861 receiving yards, and tied for 14th with five touchdowns.
