5 best Sunday games of NFL Week 1

The first game of the 2018 NFL season is in the books, and it wasn’t something Atlanta Falcons fans want to remember. On the flip side, the defending-champion Philadelphia Eagles are already 1-0 and feeling good, despite that contest being a very ugly one between two teams presumed to be far better than that showing.

So which games are the best of the bunch come Sunday? Here are five NFL Week 1 matches to make sure you have on the tube.

5. Jacksonville Jaguars at New York Giants

On paper, you might be scratching your head as to why this is on the list. The Jaguars are certainly a quality team after getting to the AFC title game a year ago, but the Giants? New York went 3-13 last year, but don’t be fooled. This is a very talented team, especially on the offensive side with Odell Beckham Jr., Evan Engram, Sterling Shepard, Saquon Barkley and Eli Manning. It’s going to be loads of fun watching that group take on Jacksonville’s stacked defense.

4. San Francisco 49ers at Minnesota Vikings

Everybody seems to love the 49ers. San Francisco has Jimmy Garoppolo and Kyle Shanahan as the league’s hottest power couple, along with the signing of Richard Sherman back in March. They will travel to face the Minnesota Vikings at U.S. Bank Stadium, the home of last year’s Super Bowl. The Vikings have their own shiny quarterback to show off, having signed Kirk Cousins to a fully-guaranteed $84 million pact over three years.

3. Chicago Bears at Green Bay Packers

This is the Sunday Night Football game, and it’s also the renewal of the oldest rivalry in the NFL. In recent campaigns, the Packers would assumedly win this game by a wide margin, but that’s no longer an easy call. Khalil Mack has joined a Bears defense that was ranked in the top 10 last year, and with the additions to Chicago’s offense in Trey Burton, Allen Robinson and Taylor Gabriel, Green Bay has to be ready. With Aaron Rodgers making his return from a broken collarbone, this game should be fantastic.

2. Kansas City Chiefs at Los Angeles Chargers

This might be the most impactful game on the Week 1 docket. The Chiefs and Chargers should be the two best teams in the AFC West, and this contest could have major implications come season’s end. Kansas City has owned the Chargers in recent years, winning each of the last eight contests. Additionally, Patrick Mahomes is making his second career start, giving ample reason to tune in.

1. Houston Texans at New England Patriots

This one is short and sweet. The Patriots and Texans might well be the two best teams in the AFC. Tom Brady and Deshaun Watson are facing off. What more can you ask for in NFL Week 1?
