Broncos officially name rookie QB Bo Nix starter for Week 1
Before the Denver Broncos kick off the 2024 season, the organization announced rookie Bo Nix as the starting quarterback.
The Oregon product joins Hall of Famer John Elway in franchise history as the only rookie quarterback to earn the starting job ahead of their first NFL campaign.
“Obviously, that’s great to share with such a great player as John Elway,” Nix said via ESPN. “… You just want to go out there and get the first win, ultimately compete at a high level and give your team the best chance to win.”

Since the Broncos selected Nix with the 12th overall pick in this year’s draft, he has quickly ingratiated himself with the organization, especially head coach Sean Payton. He has progressively worked up himself up the ranks on the depth chart, moving past Jarrett Stidham to earn the starting job ahead of the season opener.
“We’re not in a hurry to arrive at those type of decisions, we want to see it,” Payton said. “… He’s been outstanding. Obviously there’s a ton of room for growth, a lot of things he needs to work on … but there is a maturity level with him.”

He has put forth encouraging performances in the Broncos’ first two preseason games, leading the team on scoring drives in six of the seven possessions he’s played. He’s coming off completing 8-of-9 passes for 80 yards with a touchdown in the Broncos’ 27-2 win over the Green Bay Packers.
Nix will have the reigns and leeway to grow and prove he’s the team’s future under center.
