Chargers CB JC Jackson ‘right on track’ to return to the field

Los Angeles Chargers are moving through the offseason, hoping to bounce back after a disappointing playoff exit.

A part of that puzzle will be Pro Bowl cornerback J.C. Jackson playing a significant part in the Chargers’ secondary. Jackson is around eight months removed from surgery to repair a ruptured patellar tendon in his right knee.

He has continued to progress in his rehab work, and he believes he’s nearing clearance to return to the practice field.

“I’m right on track,” Jackson said of the 7 to 8-month recovery timeline provided by doctors via ESPN. “Almost there.”

The Chargers are taking the precautionary route, but the team is confident that Jackson will be ready to participate in training camp in the coming weeks.

Los Angeles signed Jackson last offseason to a five-year, $82.5 million contract in hopes he would be a game changer. He had garnered an NFL-best 25 interceptions in the previous four seasons while earning a Second-Team All-Pro selection and a Pro Bowl nod.

Jackson is hoping to put last season’s struggles with injuries and production behind him to return to form.

“Haven’t done anything. Got hurt. And I just got paid,” said Jackson, who finished the season with 15 tackles and two pass deflections. “I still got to prove to my teammates and to myself that I am still Mr. INT. I didn’t do s— last year.”

The Chargers will closely monitor Jackson’s recovery to avoid any setbacks. When he returns, he play a substantial role in the defensive game plan.
