Colts GM opens up about Jonathan Taylor situation in Indianapolis
Things continue to get worse for the Indianapolis Colts and star running back Jonathan Taylor, with the team’s self-imposed trade deadline coming and going with a deal getting done to send the All-Pro to another team.
On Wednesday, Colts general manager Chris Ballard opened up about the situation between the team and Taylor and how it’s far from ideal via ESPN.
“I’m not going to sit here and give you some rosy picture, like, ‘Oh, everything’s OK,'” Ballard said. “It sucks for the Colts. It sucks for Jonathan Taylor. And it sucks for our fans. It just does. It’s where we’re at and we’ve got to work through it and we’re going to do everything we can to work through it. Relationships are repairable. They’re repairable.”
Taylor was determined to get shipped to another team after contract talks fell apart with the Colts and seemed to have that team lined up with the Miami Dolphins showing interest after failing to sign Dalvin Cook, who ultimately chose the New York Jets.

However, Ballard seems optimistic about repairing the relationship with Taylor.
“I want everybody to know, Jonathan is a well-respected and a really good human being and a damn good football player,” he said. “I think we all know this. Things like this happen. I tell every rookie that comes in, there’s going to be a point when we disagree and it’s usually about money and it’s going to be hard. And just know that doesn’t change my care level for you. I care deeply for Jonathan Taylor.
“I won’t quit on the relationship.”
It’ll be interesting to see if this relationship can get repaired and what the immediate future holds for Taylor moving forward.
