Contract talks ‘progressing’ between Cowboys, Dak Prescott

Star quarterback Dak Prescott went down with a gruesome leg injury last season. Before that, the Dallas Cowboys appeared to be on the verge of making him a wealthy man. Contract talks had been ongoing with no resolution, but that seems to be changing.

Prescott’s future is in doubt in terms of how he’ll recover from the leg injury. Although the Cowboys seem to be ready to commit to their leader under center. According to Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News, talks between the two sides are progressing. However the deadline to place a franchise tag on Prescott is quickly approaching.

With the deadline for the Cowboys to place the franchise tag on quarterback Dak Prescott a week away, multiple sources said Tuesday night talks for a new contract are progressing. One source characterized discussions as, “more productive than they have been,” in previous months.

The Cowboys have until March 9 to place the franchise tag on Prescott. This would net him a 2021 salary of $37.7 million.

Along with talk of the Cowboys potentially putting a franchise tag on Prescott and now possibly agreeing to a long-term deal before the deadline, trade rumors have surfaced with Dallas being one of the team Russell Wilson would be willing to waive his no-trade clause for.

Wilson hasn’t requested to be traded like Matthew Stafford, Carson Wentz or Deshaun Watson, but it could lead to that if the Seattle Seahawks can’t rectify the situation with their superstar quarterback. The Cowboys might be intrigued if Wilson does ultimately become available.

In the meantime, it appears the team is moving forward with Prescott. If the chatter about his huge contract demands is true, it remains to be seen how Dallas will make it work.
