Pelicans might not trade point guard Lonzo Ball after all
The NBA trade deadline is only a few weeks away. The New Orleans Pelicans are expected to be one of the more active teams in the league. Lonzo Ball has been the primary player mentioned as potentially being on the trading block along with veteran J.J. Redick, but that may no longer be the case.
Ball hasn’t exactly lived up to expectations for a No. 2 pick in the NBA Draft. He has struggled with his shooting ever since he came into the league with the Los Angeles Lakers. However, he has improved as of late, which has led some to believe he may now be off the table in New Orleans via Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report.

“If you just let Lonzo be Lonzo and Zion be Zion, they’re gonna team up for 8, 10 points a night,” said one NBA coach. For now, it appears there’s little expectation New Orleans will move Ball before the March 25 trade deadline, sources said.
It’ll be interesting to see if the Pelicans do ultimately hold onto Ball or sell while his stock is high. He may not be an All-Star or even considered to be one of the best point guards in the league. However, he’s improving and may have found his groove after some forgettable seasons to start his career.

Ball is currently averaging a career-high 14.8 points per game to go along with 5.2 assists and 4.3 rebounds per contest. He’s also shooting a career-high 39.7 percent from beyond the arc and has also improved his free-throwing shooting at a career-best 77.5 percent from the charity stripe. His value in a trade may be as high as it’s ever going to be.
