Cowboys’ Jerry Jones makes telling statement about CeeDee Lamb’s contract situation

As the 2024 season approaches, the Dallas Cowboys are at a crossroads with star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, who is holding out on his contract.

Lamb is in the final year of his rookie deal that pays him $17.99 million. However, there isn’t any sense of urgency from Cowboys owner Jerry Jones to get a lucrative contract worked out.

“I don’t know,” Jones said via ESPN. “I don’t have a sense of urgency about getting it done. Put any reason you want. I was at Nobu two days ago. Give that as the reason. Whatever you want to put out there.”

Despite all that, Jones didn’t voice concern that Lamb won’t be ready to play by the season opener.

“Well, I don’t know about that, but I know that we’re getting great work, making real progress and I don’t think losing a step at where we’re at now,” Jones said.

Since being selected with 17th overall in 2020, Lamb has developed into one of the league’s top wide receivers. He’s coming off a career-best campaign. In 2023, he led the NFL with 135 catches, second with 1,749 receiving yards, and third with 12 touchdowns.

It marked his third straight year with at least 1,100 receiving yards and second consecutive with at least 100 receptions. Lamb has put himself in the position to garner a contract that ranks among the highest-paid deals in the league.

He’s likely looking to garner a deal near the four-year, $140 million contract with $110 million guaranteed that Justin Jefferson received from the Minnesota Vikings.

With Jones expressing a lack of urgency to keep Lamb under contract for the long haul, it leaves the door open to significant change next offseason.
