Dak Prescott’s contract extension ‘imminent’ says Cowboys owner Jerry Jones

Throughout the offseason, the buzz around the Dallas Cowboys has been the pending contract extension with quarterback Dak Prescott.

This talk heated in the few days leading up to the season opener against the New York Giants. Following the strong performance against the Giants from Prescott, team owner Jerry Jones voiced that he believes an extension is “imminent” and that it could foreseeably happen in the next few days, according to Todd Archer of ESPN.

After the game, owner and general manager Jerry Jones said he would characterize an extension with Prescott as being “imminent,” which he then defined as expecting it could reasonably be completed in the next few days.

Prescott certainly made a strong case for those talks to be ramped up. He guided the Cowboys past the Giants in comfortable fashion behind his arm, completing 25 of 32 passes for 405 yards. He also had four touchdown passes with no interceptions.

He had complete control of the offense, moving Dallas down the field with ease. As a result, Prescott guided the team to a comfortable win over their NFC East divisional foe. This stellar outing has only added to the mounting momentum that was already moving towards a new deal for Prescott. A big payday will likely keep him with the Cowboys for the long haul.

With Ezekiel Elliott’s contract extension out of the way, it has paved the way towards this being the next step for the organization to take to lock in another key piece to the puzzle.
