Dolphins’ Brian Flores adamantly states Tua Tagovailoa ‘is out quarterback’

Over the last couple of weeks, the rumor mill around Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson and the Dolphins has heated up again.

The latest reports suggest the Pro Bowler holds a strong desire to play with the Miami Dolphins. However, there hasn’t been any movement on that front toward a trade as the Dolphins remain satisfied with moving forward with Tua Tagovailoa as the starter.

Head coach Brian Flores further underlined that sentiment this week by voicing that Tagovailoa is the Dolphins’ quarterback moving forward.

“Tua [Tagovailoa] is our quarterback,” Flores told reporters, via Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald. “He’s had a good training camp, made a lot of progress, made a lot of improvement. We’re pleased with where he is.”

Flores’ latest comments come after he voiced earlier this week that he only wants high-character players who will represent the organization well. It was a clear shot direct shot at Watson, who is dealing with sexual assault lawsuits from 22 women.

Beyond that, Flores’ remarks can effectively scratch the Dolphins off the list as a potential landing spot for Watson. The team wants to see what they have with Tagovailoa, who is coming off a solid rookie campaign where he demonstrated flashes of promise.

Meanwhile, Watson may have to wait to find a new NFL home as the Texans are reportedly fine with having him on the active roster deactivated each week. The trade deadline next season also isn’t until the Tuesday after Week 8.

All this spells a messy situation ahead for Watson.
