Dolphins star Jalen Ramsey expected to miss the start of the season

The Miami Dolphins suffered a significant blow to their secondary after star cornerback Jalen Ramsey suffered a meniscus injury that required surgery.

Ramsey is expected to miss the start of the season, putting his debut with Miami on the shelf.

“I promise I will attack this rehab and be back stronger than ever,” Ramsey posted to X. “This will just [be] part of the greater story down the stretch! Adversity is opportunity!”

The Dolphins are taking the precautionary approach with the injury hoping to avoid a setback. Ramsey will play a major part of Miami’s secondary, and his absence places more responsibility on four-time Pro Bowler Xavien Howard’s shoulders.

The Dolphins could bring in additional outside help while Jalen Ramsey is sidelined. Second-year cornerback Kader Kohou and rookie Cam Smith will likely get the first shot to fill the void.

Meanwhile, head coach Mike McDaniel voiced that the Dolphins there isn’t a set timetable for the All-Pro cornerback.

“The length of this rehabilitation is kind of dictated on a couple things that could occur in the surgery,” McDaniel said via ESPN. “So the exact timeline is a little too big to be determined. What I can tell you is I don’t think the beginning of the regular season is really part of the scenario. It’s going to be into the season, and how deep that is depends on what happens today.”

The Dolphins acquired Ramsey from the Los Angeles Rams for a 2023 third-round pick (No. 77 overall) and tight end Hunter Long. He restructured his contract over the next three years, for which he will roughly make $55 million.
