Eagles will stick with Carson Wentz at quarterback ‘going forward’

The Philadelphia Eagles saw their chances to repeat as Super Bowl champions ended last Sunday. They fell to a disappointing 20-14 loss to the New Orleans Saints.

This has immediately thrust forward questions concerning their quarterback situation involving the future of both Carson Wentz and Nick Foles. With that in mind, Eagles head coach Doug Pederson made it quite clear that Wentz is their future at the position, according to Tim McManus of ESPN.

“Yes, Carson Wentz is the quarterback going forward,” coach Doug Pederson said at a joint news conference with executive vice president of football operations Howie Roseman on Tuesday. “And in Nick’s case, listen, we’d love to have everybody back throughout the roster, but as I’ve said many, many times, it’s not about one guy, it’s about the team, and we’re going to do what’s best for the team.”

These comments only further clarify that Wentz has already solidified his spot as their long-term answer under center. This is despite his continued struggles with injuries. Meanwhile, it opens the door to an intriguing offseason for Foles.

The 29-year-old has more than proven that he can step in. As well as that, he can lead a franchise to success, as he has shown over the last two seasons. Foles’ resume speaks for itself as he has shown great poise under pressure while his steady play should earn him an opportunity to start elsewhere in the league for another team looking for a starter at the position.

All of this now sets up what should be a highly intriguing next several weeks heading into the offseason.
