Ezekiel Elliott claims he’s ‘got a lot to prove’ with the Cowboys this season

After a disappointing 2020 season, the Dallas Cowboys hold plenty of motivation to push forward.

That sentiment rings true with star running back Ezekiel Elliott after a difficult campaign filled with struggles and shortcomings. Earlier this week, Elliott voiced he has the internal motivation he needs to get back on track in 2021.

“Just having the year I had last year, you don’t need more motivation than that,” Elliott said after the Cowboys’ first training camp practice via Todd Archer of ESPN. “I just know the type of player I am. I don’t think I showed that last year. I’ve got a lot to prove. I just made sure I didn’t leave any doubt out there that I didn’t do as much as I needed to do.”

Elliott struggled to find his footing throughout last season as he finished with 979 rushing yards in 15 games. He also averaged a career-low 4.0 yards per attempt along with tying a career-worst mark with six fumbles.

Part of his struggles came from the Cowboys losing Dak Prescott for the season early in the campaign. However, Elliott never found any stable traction as he surpassed over 100 rushing yards only twice last year despite finishing fifth in the league with 244 carries.

The 25-year-old will have a prime opportunity to push get back to producing like one of the league’s top running backs. Beyond that, the Cowboys hold the chance to get back into the playoff picture as a legitimate Super Bowl contender.
