Falcons QB Kirk Cousins is ‘improving’ every day

As the offseason pushed forward into training camp, the focus around the Atlanta Falcons centers on Pro Bowl quarterback Kirk Cousins’ health.

Cousins is recovering from a surgically repaired Achilles tendon that he suffered in Week 8 of last season. Despite that, he is expected to be a full go for the team’s offseason training camp.

“Kirk is every day improving,” head coach Raheem Morris said at the Falcons’ rookie minicamp via ESPN. “So, we are kind of right at the point where he’s doing everything that we can do at this point at phase two, right? Which is nobody around him. There’s no contact. He’s all good with all those types of things. So, he’s been doing all those things.”

Although the 35-year-old can handle anything physical, the team is limiting his activity. The Falcons want to prevent any setback as he continues to ramp up his recovery process.

“We’ll limit what he does as far as the amount, not necessarily what he’s doing when it comes to what we are at and what we’re able to do right now,” Morris said. “It’s not like training camp where I’m worried about people being around his feet, because the pace is so slow and … we feel really good about where he’s at right now.”

Cousins signed with the Falcons on a four-year, $180 million deal, which further underlines the importance of keeping him on track to be ready ahead of next season.

Atlanta may have rookie Michael Penix Jr. in tow, but Cousins is the future under center for the foreseeable path ahead.
