Hunter Henry already impressed with Patriots rookie QB Mac Jones

The New England Patriots officially began the era with rookie Mac Jones leading the charge for the storied franchise.

The Patriots fell just short in Week 1 action against the Miami Dolphins, but it hasn’t diminished the team’s confidence in the Alabama product. Offseason addition Hunter Henry voiced that he believes Jones will only get better with each passing week.

“I was really proud of him and how he handled it,” Henry said via Patriots Wire.” He had a lot of poise and obviously delivered the ball really well, sat in there in the pocket even when the pocket was coming down. He made some big-time throws that sometimes a lot of other guys aren’t going to make, just standing in the pocket and taking hits and different things like that.

“That shows a lot to us, as guys — a guy that’s going to stand in there no matter what and deliver the ball. It was big to see. So he’s only going to continue to get better the more game reps and the more practice reps and all the reps that we take.”

Jones didn’t put together a flashy performance by any means, but he had firm control of the offense. He played well against the Dolphins’ aggressive front seven in his first official game.

The Patriots also didn’t overload him to carry the offense, which the team will progressively give him more control over the offense as he progresses along. Week 2 action will provide Jones an opportunity to build off the start to his rookie campaign.
