Jaguars star Leonard Fournette is happy for ‘clean start’ with team
The Jacksonville Jaguars and star running back Leonard Fournette haven’t exactly seen eye-to-eye early in his NFL career. It has been a rocky road for Fournette who has battled injuries and dealt with criticism from Tom Coughlin.
There was a lot of speculation after the 2018 campaign came to an end that the Jaguars would look into trading the star back. Although Fournette has battled injuries and has been a problem for the team at times, his talent is undeniable as he could one day be considered one of the elite players at his position.
Fournette has been given assurance the team is behind him moving forward and he is pleased with the opportunity for a fresh start in Jacksonville, via Michael DiRocco of ESPN.
“I’m happy, especially the way I’m here working with my team right now,” Fournette said Friday after the team’s third organized team activity. “It’s a new year. We have a new team. We’re focused and we have new players. It’s a new year for us. So it’s a new everything. It’s a clean start for a lot of us guys.
“We’re not focused on the past. The past’s the past. Some things I did, whether it was offseason and I admitted to, yeah, I was wrong. We moved on. We’re in a good place right now.”
After a forgettable performance by the team in 2018, the Jaguars hope to bounce back in 2019 with the franchise bringing in quarterback Nick Foles and a rejuvenated Fournette. This team is too talented to not be a force in the AFC and it’ll be interesting to see how this new-look squad will fair next season.
