Jamal Adams signs short-term deal with Titans

After months of floating in free agency, Jamal Adams has agreed to a one-year deal with the Tennessee Titans.

The former Pro Bowl safety spent the previous four seasons with the Seattle Seahawks before being released on March 5.

His stint with the Seahawks was marred with injuries that saw him fail to play more than 12 games consecutively. As a result, he missed 24 games over the past two years.

His last Pro Bowl selection occurred in 2020. That was his first year with the Seahawks when he recorded a career-best 9.5 sacks, 83 tackles, and three pass deflections. In seven seasons, he has 494 tackles, 21.5 sacks, four interceptions, seven forced fumbles, and 36 pass deflections in 80 regular-season games.

The Titans are making a low-risk, high-reward move by bringing Adams aboard with a short-term deal. It marks a prime opportunity for the 28-year-old to re-establish himself as one of the game’s best defensive backs.

He was once revered as a hard-hitting safety who could impact the game with his versatility. However, over the last few seasons, Adams has become a shell of that player due to injuries and inconsistent performance.

He’s set to join a safety room that includes Amani Hooker and Elijah Molden, which paves the way for him to compete for one of the starting spots before the 2024 season.

The Titans are moving through a new transition period after firing head coach Mike Vrabel after six seasons after the team failed to reach the playoffs in each of the last two years.
