Jets ‘contacted’ Steelers about trade for RB Le’Veon Bell

The Pittsburgh Steelers are in the midst of a troubling situation with star running Le’Veon Bell. After a drawn out saga, bell is still deciding to stay away from the team. This has pushed the Steelers to be opening to take offers for Bell over the last several days. According to Rich Cimini of ESPN, the New York Jets have reached out to Pittsburgh to possibly work out a deal to land the 26-year-old.

The New York Jets contacted the Pittsburgh Steelers to inquire about disgruntled running back Le’Veon Bell, a source confirmed Monday.

It was described as a preliminary conversation with no offer, one source said. The Steelers are willing to trade Bell, as ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Sunday.

The Jets have a plethora of salary cap space. This has made them a potent landing spot to take on his salary. New York has been active in looking to land star talent over the offseason that saw them push to sign Pro Bowl quarterback Kirk Cousins.

Although this is just simply the Jets reaching out, the Steelers are looking to move on from the Pro Bowl running back as it appears that his time with the franchise will be up after the 2018 season. There isn’t any clarity as to when he will be back in the fold aside from him being back by Tuesday after Week 10 in order to get credit for playing in the 2018 campaign to become a free agent next offseason.

Bell has established himself as being one of the league’s best running backs behind his highly effective play as both a runner and receiver out of the backfield. If anything, this recent chatter opens the door to him being moved at some point this season.
