The injury occurred in the fourth quarter. He attempted to scramble further down the field as he decided to make a move to stay in bounds rather than run cleanly out of bounds. As a result, his leg was put in an awkward position with his left leg as he looked to get more yards on the play.
The injury he is dealing with typically takes nine months to a year to fully recover from. The 49ers will likely take the precautionary approach with the situation given his importance to the team’s long-term future. Garoppolo had agreed to a five-year, $135.5 million deal over the offseason with the team.
