Jets RB Le’Veon Bell sees similarities between him and Sam Darnold

Heading into the 2019 season, the New York Jets have much optimism surrounding the team surrounding the development of second-year quarterback Sam Darnold.

New York is hopeful that Darnold can take another leap forward in 2019 to further prove that he’s the long-term future under center for the franchise. Offseason addition star running back Le’Veon Bell has come away quite impressed with his new teammate and even sees much of himself in him, according to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk.

“It’s hard to describe someone that’s like that because I’m like that,” Bell said, via the team’s website. “A lot of people go to practice and you’re just practicing. They call a play and you run the play. When they call a play for me, I’m trying to work myself and I’m trying to like really get better at it. And I can see that in Sam. When he makes a throw he doesn’t really like, I can see that in his face, ‘I could’ve thrown that better.’ You’ve got to love that about him because he literally wants to be perfect. He reminds me a lot of myself in that aspect.”

This speaks to Darnold’s drive on the field to push himself forward to improve. It is an aspect that will be crucial to his development and performance on the field, which only makes it more encouraging for the Jets to hear from Bell’s perspective.

The Jets have centered their offensive game plan around Darnold while also providing him with a bonafide weapon in Bell that should help improve the running and passing game. New York has given the former USC quarterback the keys to the franchise. As a result, he now has full control of the direction of the team next season and possibly well beyond that.
