Lions RB David Montgomery likely ‘down for a little bit’ says Dan Campbell

The Detroit Lions are one team that received a lot of hype coming into this NFL season and has been able to live up to those expectations, with the team sporting a 5-1 record after getting the best of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 6.

Unfortunately, the team’s fifth win of the season came at a cost, with rising star David Montgomery going down with an injury that could result in the running back being stuck on the sideline for some time. Montgomery suffered a rib injury during the win over the Buccaneers.

Head coach Dan Campbell talked about the injury Montgomery suffered in the win on Sunday, as he admits the up-and-coming running back could miss some time via ESPN.

“He’s probably going to be down for a little bit. I don’t know how long … at his position, that’s not an easy thing to deal with, so we’ll just take it as it comes, but I think there’s a chance we won’t have him for a little bit,” Campbell said.

Even without Montgomery for the majority of the contest against Tampa Bay, the Lions were able to get their offense going, mainly due to the play of veteran quarterback Jared Goff under center. Goff threw for more than 350 yards and two touchdowns, which proved to be the difference for the first-place Lions.

With Montgomery on the mend, the Lions will likely turn to rookie Jahmyr Gibbs if he can get back on the field after missing this week with a hamstring injury.
