Nick Foles Not Likely to See Action Against Eagles

Nick Foles is not likely to play on Thursday against his former teammates. On Tuesday, the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars Doug Marrone said as much. He insisted that he was not playing many starters when the Jags play Philadelphia on Thursday.

Nick Foles has not been officially ruled out. Although, Marrone did say he did not want his starting quarterback to play unless the starting offensive line was healthy and playing in front of his signal caller. However, three starters on the OL are injured and will likely not play Thursday.

Marrone said that after practice on Wednesday he and his coaching staff would look at things. However, they will probably still sit many players on Thursday. The Jags coach added that the plan was to play the starters during Week 3 of the preseason.

Nick Foles is one of 31 players, including 20 starters, who did not see action in the opening game of the preseason. It was depth options and youth who started for the Jaguars last Thursday.

Marrone said his plan is playing starters approximately 20 snaps during the second preseason game. However instead he has taken a more cautious approach during this preseason. Understandable, considering the injuries that decimated the team a season ago.

Those injuries included losing top receiver Marqise Lee all season. Lee was out with a knee injury suffered during Week 3 of the preseason schedule. In addition, center Brandon Linder and guard Andrew Norwell suffered injuries in training camp. Those knocks eventually caused them to be placed on injured reserve.

The current status of the offensive line is tackle Cam Robinson just returned Monday from being on the physically unable to perform list for a knee injury. Norwell has a quad injury and right tackle Jawaan Taylor has a knee problem. This week all three were limited in practice

Marrone added that his first-teamers that are healthy have taken more snaps during practices the last two weeks in order to compensate for missing the first two preseason games.

The Jags head coach added usually he has had starters play 30 snaps during Week 3 of preseason but next week a determination would be made about that prior to the game.

Foles was signed by the Jaguars in March to a four-year deal for $91 million that included guaranteed money of $50.125 million. The possibility exists that Foles would not be taking any game snaps until the opening game of the regular season at home against Kansas City.
