NFL Week 2 lines: Early thoughts on the AFC spreads

With NFL Week 2 approaching, we take a look at some of the early AFC spreads. Below are nine games to bet in NFL Week 2.

New England Patriots (-19) at Miami Dolphins

This line is ridiculous, and I’d still bet the Patriots if given the option. New England is laying an absurd 19 points on the road, the biggest line since the Jaguars visited the Broncos in 2013 as 28-point dogs. Jacksonville covered that day, and while the Dolphins will fight, it’s hard to see them covering in a similar underdog role.

San Francisco 49ers at Cincinnati Bengals (-1.5)

The Bengals earned this respect. Cincinnati played the heavily-favored Seahawks hard in their Week 1 tilt, and now come home favored against the Niners. The number is a bit low. San Francisco showed nothing even in a win over Tampa Bay to make this less than Cincinnati -3.

Seattle Seahawks at Pittsburgh Steelers (-4)

The Steelers are coming off a humiliating defeat. The Seahawks are coming off a tough win at home over the Bengals. Why is Pittsburgh laying four points here? Take Seattle to cover and perhaps outright win.

Indianapolis Colts at Tennessee Titans (-3)

The only number that makes sense. The Colts and Titans are still unknown quantities at this point, and neither is an offensive juggernaut. Tennessee looked terrific Week 1, but can it keep that pace up?

Jacksonville Jaguars at Houston Texans (-9)

This is too high. Way too high. Gardner Minchew actually looked good against the Chiefs. If that continues, the Jaguars will score some points. More importantly, the Texans can’t block. They allowed six sacks against the Saints. The Jaguars front is incredible. Jacksonville may hit Deshaun Watson 25 times in this one.

Arizona Cardinals at Baltimore Ravens (-13.5)

Another line that shouldn’t be this high. The Ravens hammered the Dolphins 59-10, but this isn’t going to be a consistently high-scoring attack. The Cardinals likely lose, but getting two touchdowns? Arizona is the bet.

Kansas City Chiefs (-7.5) at Oakland Raiders

The Raiders aren’t stopping the Chiefs in this game. Derek Carr might throw for three touchdowns and 300 yards, but Patrick Mahomes could go for four touchdowns and 400 yards. It’s a large line, but it’s fair considering the teams.

Chicago Bears (-2.5) at Denver Broncos

Forget the spread, just take the under. That said, the line is right. The Bears are the better team with 10 days to prepare. Denver doesn’t deserve to be favored over almost anybody at the moment.

Cleveland Browns (-2.5) at New York Jets

The Browns continue to get respect by being favorites. New York lost a 16-0 lead to the Bills, so being ‘dogs is understandable, although the number is a point or so too high. The Browns are the better team, but this should be closer to a PICK’EM.
