NFL Week 3 odds: 5 underdogs to bet on come Sunday

NFL Week 3 presents some intriguing opportunities to win big on the underdog. Below we look at 5 underdogs to bet in NFL Week 3.

5. Cincinnati Bengals (+6)

Cincinnati is on the road this week to take on the undefeated Buffalo Bills. So why take the points? Because the Bengals have a good offense that should be able to score enough, whether it be to keep the game competitive or in garbage time. The other factor is while the Bengals are fielding an atrocious defense, the Bills aren’t a high-scoring attack. Buffalo likely won’t reach 30 points, so this could be a 24-13 game where Cincinnati scores in the final minute to cover.

4. Houston Texans (+3)

The Texans are another road underdog, dueling with the Los Angeles Chargers. The Chargers are motivated after losing a hideous affair against the Detroit Lions, but they are also banged up. Derwin James, Hunter Henry and Russell Okung remain sidelined by injuries, Melvin Gordon is holding out, etc. In short, Los Angeles won’t be putting up 35 points s it might if healthy. The Texans can’t block at all, which isn’t great against Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram, but Deshaun Watson is elite. He’ll keep Houston right there and perhaps win outright.

3. Washington Redskins (+4)

This is going to be one of the uglier Monday Night Football contests in recent memory. The Chicago Bears are coming to Washington D.C., looking to avoid being the Redskins’ first victim of the season. However,  Washington should be able to hang tough considering Mitchell Trubisky has been awful thus far. Additionally, Case Keenum has been good. Chicago’s defense is likely the difference, but four points are too many.

2. Pittsburgh Steelers (+6.5)

The Steelers are 0-2. They are visiting the 2-0 San Francisco 49ers on a cross-country trip. Ben Roethlisberger is done for the season, giving Mason Rudolph his first NFL start. So why take the points? Because Rudolph looked good in limited action against the Seattle Seahawks, and Pittsburgh is beyond desperate to win here. Betting the Steelers’ moneyline is a bit too dangerous, but there’s reason to believe San Francisco has a tough time covering a touchdown.

1. Oakland Raiders (+9)

Why are the Minnesota Vikings laying nine points? Minnesota has seen its quarterback play horribly through two weeks, and the offense completely stalled on Sunday against the Green Bay Packers. While the Vikings should win, and Kirk Cousins should improve, they haven’t looked nine points better than the Raiders. Oakland should be able to cover in a back-door capacity at the minimum, and maybe keep this close throughout.
