Packers Look to Rebound From Tough Week One Loss

Lions-win-week-1The Washington Redskins meet the Green Bay Packers in a game with two of last season’s playoff teams. The loser of this game will start 0-2. If history tells us anything, it is that 0-2 teams rarely make the playoffs. Since 1990, only 22 teams (11.5%) have gone on to the playoffs. So this is an awfully big game this early on the schedule.

The Packers lost a tough 34-28 game to the San Francisco 49ers in their opener. Frank Gore gave the Nines the lead for good with less than 6:00 left in the game when he ran for a one yard touchdown to make it 31-28. The Niners then kicked a field goal with :26 left to make it 34-28. The game was tied 7-7 after one quarter, 14-14 at the half and 21-21 after three quarters. The Packers never led in the game until a two-yard Eddie Lacy touchdown run halfway through the final period to make it 28-24.

The Redskins on the other hand got down big early in their Monday Night opener against the Philadelphia Eagles. They trailed 26-7 at the half and 33-14 after three quarters. The Eagles held off a furious fourth quarter rally to hang on to win 33-27.

Betonline has odds on this week’s NFC North games:

Washington at Green Bay– The Redskins are +7.5 -10 and th Packers are -7.5 -110 ATS. Moneyline is Washington +275 and the Packers -330. Over/Under is 49.5. We like the Redskins +7.5 and the Packers -330. We also like the over -110.

Minnesota Vikings at Chicago Bears-  The Bears will try to improve to 2-0 and put the Vikings in an 0-2 hole at home. The Vikings would not only be 0-2 with the loss but both would be inside the division. The Vikings are +6.5 -115 and the Bears are -6.5 -105 ATS. Moneyline has the Vikings +220 and the Bears -260. Over/Under is 42 with both -110. We like the Bears -6.5 -105 and the under -110.

Detroit Lions at Arizona Cardinals– This game is a pick’em with the Lions -125 and the Cards +105. Over/Under is 47.5 with both -110. We are going to go with the Lions -125 and the under -110. The Lions are looking to improve to 2-0 while Cardinals are trying to avoid the dreaded 0-2 start. The Cards lost a heart-breaker to the St. Louis Rams in their opener 27-24.

If all goes their way this week, the Bears could wind up alone in first place after this weekend. The Cardinals at home could well end up beating the Lions and a Bears win would then make them the only 2-0 team. But they will still have yet to play away from home and if Green Bay wins this week they would be right back in it.
