Panthers moving forward with rookie Bryce Young being starting QB

The Carolina Panthers reshaped the future of the franchise after taking former Alabama star quarterback Bryce Young with the first overall pick in this year’s draft.

It quickly put him on the fast track to head the Panthers’ direction forward as the potential cornerstone piece. Young has taken the next step toward starting that process after earning the first-team practice reps under center.

Head coach Frank Reich voiced that Young is simply moving along in the process.

“It’s just the next step,” Reich said via ESPN. “We had a couple of weeks to watch Andy. Andy has continued to perform at a very high level. We’re just trying to get our team ready. Everything is about what’s best for our team, and so this was just the next step.”

The Panthers haven’t put any pressure on Young to be the starter in 2023, but his progression on the practice field has earned him the opportunity to practice with the first team. He has shown enough to surpass veteran quarterback Andy Dalton to secure snaps with the starters.

Carolina won’t rush Young into that role, but it’s unfolding in the manner that the organization hoped. The Panthers want to shape the roster around the former Heisman winner that will give them the franchise quarterback they need since Cam Newton.

Young will be given every chance to showcase that he can lead the team to sustained success.

There will be bumps along the way, but he’s garnering much-needed experience to fulfill that crucial role.
