The initial x-rays of the injury didn’t show any significant issues. However an additional MRI displayed enough damage to the ankle to end the Pro Bowler’s 2021 campaign. The 25-year-old won’t need surgery to repair the ailment and should be ready to play next season.
It marks the end of another injury-riddled year for McCaffrey. He already missed five games this season due to a hamstring injury. Last year, he was sidelined for 13 games due to an assortment of ailments.
After signing the four-year, $64 million deal, he’s struggled to stay on the field that will lead him to miss 23 regular-season games by the end of this campaign. When healthy, McCaffrey is one of the league’s best offensive talents, but he has become injury-prone. He became the third player in NFL history to post at least 1,000 rushing yards and 1,000 receiving yards in a single season.
