Panthers superstar Christian McCaffrey to miss the rest of the season

The Carolina Panthers have progressively seen their 2021 season head south after a disappointing 33-10 loss to the Miami Dolphins in Week 12 action. The tough news continues to pile up as the Panthers announced on Monday that star running back Christian McCaffrey would miss the rest of the season due to a left injury, according to ESPN.

The initial x-rays of the injury didn’t show any significant issues. However an additional MRI displayed enough damage to the ankle to end the Pro Bowler’s 2021 campaign. The 25-year-old won’t need surgery to repair the ailment and should be ready to play next season.

It marks the end of another injury-riddled year for McCaffrey. He already missed five games this season due to a hamstring injury. Last year, he was sidelined for 13 games due to an assortment of ailments.

After signing the four-year, $64 million deal, he’s struggled to stay on the field that will lead him to miss 23 regular-season games by the end of this campaign. When healthy, McCaffrey is one of the league’s best offensive talents, but he has become injury-prone. He became the third player in NFL history to post at least 1,000 rushing yards and 1,000 receiving yards in a single season.

The Panthers will move forward the rest of the season without their offensive centerpiece. Meanwhile, Cam Newton’s struggles don’t position Carolina in a strong spot to make a playoff push.

There are still five regular-season games left, but the Panthers have an uphill battle ahead to vie for the postseason.
