Raiders coach Jon Gruden claims ‘no regrets’ trading Khalil Mack

It has been a couple of weeks since the Oakland Raiders made the decision to trade All-Pro defensive end Khalil Mack to the Chicago Bears.

With some time to gain clarity on the move, head coach Jon Gruden voiced that he has no regrets making that transaction to move the former NFL Defensive Player of the Year, according to Paul Gutierrez of ESPN.

“No, it doesn’t make me regret the trade,” Gruden said Monday in his weekly media conference. “We made the trade. We made the trade, you know there’s going to be hindsight, 50-50, all that stuff, but we would have loved to have had him here. I’m not going to keep rehashing this.”

Through the first two games of the season, there has been a noticeable lack of a true pass rush on the defensive line as the Raiders have just two sacks over that span. This has impacted Oakland greatly in that regard that has put more pressure on their secondary to hold their own.

Meanwhile, Mack has performed like an elite talent in his brief time with the Bears. This saw him record a sack, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and an interception returned for a touchdown against the Green Bay Packers in the season opener. He has been the clear-cut anchor on their defensive front that has made them an even more effective unit against opposing teams.

Ultimately, only time will tell how this move impacts the Raiders for the long-term on the defensive side of the ball.
