Sam Darnold thanks Seahawks for ‘believing’ in him

In his first season with the Seattle Seahawks, quarterback Sam Darnold accomplished the ultimate goal of winning the Super Bowl.

It was the Seahawks taking a chance on Darnold as the game-changer who could help lift the franchise to its second championship. During the team’s championship parade, he expressed his gratitude to the organization.

“I’ve talked a lot this last week about belief,” Darnold said via ESPN. “A lot of people didn’t believe in me, but it didn’t matter because the ones that are close believed in me, including you all. I appreciate you all so much. That short list also includes [team owner] Jody Allen, [general manager] John Schneider, [coach] Mike Macdonald. I appreciate the belief you all had in me for signing me this past year.

“And last but certainly not least, these players, man, for believing in me. I wouldn’t be here without these guys.”

Although Darnold was coming off leading the Minnesota Vikings to a playoff berth after a 14-win regular season, there were some doubts surrounding him due to his struggles before the playoffs and the wildcard loss to the Los Angeles Rams.

However, the Seahawks put that aside and took a chance on him by inking him to a three-year, $100.5 million contract after trading longtime starter Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders.

The calculated risk paid off as Darnold proved to be a significant piece in guiding the team to a championship. Seattle sits in a position to add more Super Bowl trophies to the mantle with him at the helm.
