Seahawks’ DeMarcus Lawrence Announces Retirement Plan With Emotional Message

Seattle Seahawks star pass rusher DeMarcus Lawrence is giving it one more round before stepping into retirement.

After dancing around the idea of ending his career last offseason, Lawrence has officially decided that the 2026 season will be the last of his playing career.

“It was a tough process,” Lawrence told Yahoo Sports via ESPN. “But through the grace of God, I’m able to play another year and soak it all up one more good time before I hang it up.”

Before joining the Seahawks last offseason, Lawrence flirted with retirement but chose to ink a deal with Seattle. It wound up being an extremely beneficial decision, as he helped secure a convincing Super Bowl win over the New England Patriots.

As he embarks on his final campaign, Lawrence has his eyes set on helping the Seahawks repeat as Super Bowl champions.

“But I kind of had a bittersweet feeling in my heart, understanding that with the type of team that we had, we should have been where we were last year,” he said. “This is where the hard part begins, staying on top.”

The Seahawks will have the daunting task of achieving a rare feat that only eight teams have done a total of nine times, with the Pittsburgh Steelers being the only franchise to do it twice. They are searching to become the first organization since the Kansas City Chiefs accomplished that earlier this decade.

Lawrence is coming off notching six sacks, three forced fumbles, and 53 total tackles last season.
