Tyler Lockett thinks Seahawks fans should cheer Russell Wilson

The first week of the 2022 NFL season features many intriguing matchups. Week 1 action ends with a game between the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks, which marks star quarterback Russell Wilson’s first game against his former teammate.

Days ahead of the Monday night matchup, Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett voiced that his team’s fan base should cheer the nine-time Pro Bowler.

“I have no idea because I can’t control what anybody else says or what anybody else does,” Lockett said Tuesday via ESPN. “But I know that when I see him, I’ll go give him a hug, talk to him … wish him good luck not only in this game but for the rest of this season and for the rest of his career as we continue to talk outside of football and stuff like that. But Russ has done so much for this community.”

Wilson spent his first 10 seasons with the Seahawks, which he led to the playoffs nine times before his injury-plagued 2021 campaign. That includes guiding the franchise to two Super Bowl appearances, highlighted by winning Super Bowl XLVIII.

Wilson holds various franchise records while keeping the Seahawks among the top NFC teams. Seattle will likely go out of its way to show appreciation to the future first-ballot Hall of Famer.

He’s now set to begin the next chapter of his illustrious career with the Broncos, where he recently inked a five-year, $245 million extension that keeps him under contract for the next seven seasons.
