Uncertainty still surrounding Earl Thomas’ future with the Seahawks

Since the end of the 2018 regular season, there has been constant dialogue surrounding Seattle Seahawks All-Pro safety Earl Thomas’ long-term future with the franchise. It has continued to be crowded with chatter regarding possible trade rumors to resolve what has become a strained situation.

Another wrinkle was added to the matter as Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll stated on Sunday that he is unsure when Thomas will rejoin the team, according to Brady Henderson of ESPN.

“We’ll find out. We’ve got to communicate,” Carroll said Sunday as the team wrapped up a three-day rookie minicamp.

“Phase 2 doesn’t look like it’s suiting him right now, so we’ll see, we’ll see what’s happening. Phase 3 is around the corner for us, so we’ll see. We’ve got one more week of Phase 2.”

It has become a dicey situation in Seattle as the team’s sudden shift in direction to move off from their established group on the defensive side of the ball has displaced Thomas’ future in the matter. It has already seen the departure of All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman, Pro Bowl defensive end Michael Bennett, cornerback Jeremy Lane, and defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson.

The Seahawks have continued to voice that they believe that the 28-year-old wants to remain with the team. This is in spite of the trade rumors over the offseason. His name was tossed around with the price tag being a first and third round selection from this year’s draft. Nothing truly came about from that discussion. However, it does point to the team having some interest in moving off him for the right price tag.

This latest development could lead to the front office once again revisiting trade talks. The Dallas Cowboys are at the forefront of that possible scenario as a potential landing spot. Ultimately, it is something to keep an eye on. Training camp quickly approaches with it now being less than two weeks away from getting underway.
