Veteran QB Jameis Winston agrees to deal with Browns
The Cleveland Browns added depth under center by agreeing to a one-year deal with veteran quarterback Jameis Winston.
Winston will effectively replace Joe Flacco as Deshaun Watson’s backup. The 30-year-old expressed excitement about the next stop in his NFL career.

“Yes, I still envision myself as a starter. However, the Lord has also called me to lead by impacting and increasing the men who are around me. Having the opportunity to work with Deshaun and help him be the best he can possibly be, is my main mission,” he told CBS Sports. “Now, if Deshaun has to heal up for whatever reason, and I have to take a few games off of him, I’m going to be ready to do that; but I have to fulfill God’s purpose first before my own heart’s desire. Because ultimately I desire to win some Super Bowls, and this roster that Cleveland got, looks like they can do it.”
Winston played the last three seasons with the Saints, where he primarily served as the backup. Last season, he recorded 264 passing yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions in seven games.

His last full season as a starter came in 2019 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he posted career highs with 5,109 passing yards and 33 touchdowns but threw a league-worst 30 interceptions.
Winston will bring stability behind Watson, who is coming off a season prematurely ended due to shoulder surgery.
Browns also have second-year quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson on the roster.
