Vikings haven’t considered trading superstar WR Justin Jefferson

The Minnesota Vikings are heading into a crucial offseason that will shape the franchise’s foreseeable future ahead.

Among the top tasks for general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah is signing star wide receiver Justin Jefferson to a contract extension.

The Vikings are heading into another offseason hoping to ink the Pro Bowl wideout to a lucrative deal after failing to do so last year.

The lack of significant movement toward that front opened the door to speculation that the team could entertain trade talk. However, Adofo-Mensah quickly silenced any discussion concerning moving Jefferson.

Instead, he voiced strong confidence that the two sides can work out an extension.

“We had a lot of great dialogue last offseason,” Adofo-Mensah said via ESPN. “I think people forget: Deals rarely happen after three years. And there’s a reason. With two years left [on his rookie contract], there’s uncertainty that somebody has got to hold. Either the club has got to hold it, or the player has got to hold it. There’s new money, old money. How do you look at contracts? Those are very hard conversations to have. So a lot of them don’t get done…

“We’ve said it and we’ll continue to say it: We think he’s the best wide receiver in the league and should be compensated as such. We think he’s the one of the best non-quarterbacks in the league, and think he should be compensated as such. We’ll continue to have those dialogues and conversations.”

Jefferson is heading into the fifth-year option of his rookie deal worth $19.7 million. Through his first four campaigns, he’s produced at a historic pace while proving to be one of the game’s top offensive talents.

All that should set the stage for a historic contract with the Vikings ahead this offseason.
