Gronkowski, the five-time All-Pro, is widely considered to be the best tight end in the NFL. Although he has dealt with numerous injuries on an annual basis which has shed doubt on his long-term future. Gronkowski has battled through these injuries year after year without an impact on his on-field production, but the wear and tear on his body taken a toll, according to ESPN.

Two sources who have spoken to Gronkowski told Darlington that Gronkowski began telling some people close to him, even before he suffered a concussion in the AFC Championship Game, that football was taking a toll on his body and he was contemplating the end of his playing days.

If Gronkowski does decide to call it a career, it will be a devastating blow to the potent offense of the Patriots and might impact their odds to win it all next season. One of Tom Brady’s favorite targets will be gone. This will leave a void at tight end as the team tries to bounce back after losing the Super Bowl.
