Pittsburgh Steelers Has Super Bowl In Its Sights After Edging Titans

The Pittsburgh Steelers wouldn’t have been thinking about the Super Bowl before the start of the season. After their win over Tennessee on Sunday, they will be. 

The Pittsburgh Steelers VS Tennessee Titans game was contested between the NFL’s two remaining undefeated teams. After Pittsburgh won 27 – 24, it moved to 6 – 0 and is the only team left with a perfect record.

It’s the franchise’s best start in 42 years, since 1978 when Pittsburgh won its first seven games. That year, the Steelers went on to win the Super Bowl.

Sunday’s game was the fifth time in NFL history that two undefeated teams played against each other in Week 7 of the seasons. The previous four winners of those games all reached the Super Bowl.

Pittsburgh’s run game still leaves something to be desired, but their offense is up there with the best. They scored 26 or more points for the sixth game in a row, equalling a 2015 run for the longest in Steelers history.

As well as that, they held the Tennessee Titans to 24 points. The Titans haven’t scored less than 31 points since their opening game of the season. 

The Steelers accomplished this without cornerback Mike Hilton, who has helped them become the league’s second-best defense this year. 

The Titans were no pushovers though, and rallied from a 17 point deficit to be in the game in the dying seconds. Stephen Gotskowski missed from 45 yards with 14 seconds left to confirm the Steelers win. It will be a concern for Tennessee, as this isn’t the first time Gotskowski has had issues this season.

The Steelers can now justifiably dream about the Super Bowl. However, coach Mike Tomlin preached caution after the game. He was at pains to stress that the Titans win was ‘not a perfect product’. 

“We are perfect from a record standpoint,” he said.

The Steelers play against the Ravens next week, in what will be another stern test of its Super Bowl bonafides.
