The Seattle Seahawks are coming off another impressive season in which Russell Wilson and company defied the odds and reached the Super Bowl for a second straight year. Wilson turned the corner as arguably one of the best quarterbacks in the game, Marshawn Lynch imposed his will out of the backfield while the defense lived up to the hype with Richard Sherman leading the way.

Unfortunately for Seattle, the team came one touchdown pass shy of winning consecutive Super Bowl titles. Although the controversial final offensive play for the Seahawks resulted in a game-winning interception for the New England Patriots, the team immediately upgraded their offense in the offseason.

In a move that surprised everyone, the Seahawks pulled off a trade to acquire arguably the best tight end in the game. The New Orleans Saints sent Jimmy Graham to the defending NFC champions adding a powerful weapon to the passing game for Wilson.

Veteran quarterback Drew Brees lost his best target in the Saints offense and was just as shocked as everyone else to see the deal go down, according to the following response in an interview with WWL-AM via ESPN:

“I think it shocked all of us,” Brees said. “A lot of crazy things happened, though, during the course of free agency for a lot of different teams. Unfortunately, you’ve been around long enough, you see some of these things happen at times. If anything it shows the confidence our organization has in the young players, especially the young skill players on offense, just feeling like those are guys that now have a chance to step up and fill a big void and fill a big role and continue to progress forward.”

In the aftermath of the blockbuster trade, the Seahawks are favored to win Super Bowl 50 at 6 to 1, according to Sportsbook.ag.

With the Seahawks greatly improving their chances to win another Super Bowl title, the Saints have dropped to 50 to 1 giving Brees very favorable odds to win a second ring next season.

Needless to say, the Graham trade may have sparked the beginning of a rebuilding process in New Orleans. The trade was so costly to the franchise that rumors started to circulate about Brees’ status with the team moving forward. Trade rumors have surrounded the veteran quarterback since Graham was dealt signaling that the Saints might be ready to move on and start from scratch.
