Seahawks Draft Shaquem Griffin who Joins Twin Shaquill

Shaquem Griffin, who played college football with the Central Florida Knights and has just one hand, will be playing with twin brother Shaquill after being drafted by the Seattle Seahawks.

The Seahawks took Griffin with the 141st pick overall during the NFL draft’s fifth round and the young football star said he was completely speechless when the Seahawks called him. Griffin, who was an outside linebacker with UCF, said he could not breathe and did not know what to say as he attempted to get words out when the Seahawks called.

When Griffin was just four years old doctors had to amputate his left hand due to amniotic band syndrome, which is a congenital condition.

He started two years at UCF and both seasons was a first team selection for the American Athletic Conference team and in 2016 was the Defensive Player of the Year in the AAC.

Griffin did not receive his formal invitation to the NFL scouting combine until January 30, making him a late addition, but he nevertheless displayed his talents running a 4.38 in the 40-yard dash, which was the fastest any linebacker has posted in over 10 years.

Shaquill was also drafted by Seattle after playing at UCF. The Seahawks chose Shaquill, who is a cornerback, in the third round with the 90th pick overall in last year’s draft.

Shaquem told reporters that he is very excited about being drafted by Seattle and playing alongside his brother will be great.

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll says that having Shaquill already on the Seahawks played a factor in their drafting his brother, but only because they knew what they would get due to the familiarity they have with Shaquill.

Carroll added that the team would play Shaquem at the weakside linebacker spot, where at this time the starter is K.J. Wright, and will use him in spots that will utilize the speed he has.

When Shaquem was asked about waiting to be drafted until the 141st pick, he said it was all worth it since he is reunited with his brother.

He called being drafted a beginning for him and added that there are many doubters out there and he is going to continue proving them wrong.
