Steelers Continue to Make Use of Vick, Have Him Simulating Wilson in Practice

He might not have set the NFL world ablaze on the field, but the 2015 edition of Mike Vick is still of some use to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

As the Steelers enter a pivotal clash with the Seattle Seahawks, head coach Mike Tomlin has Vick simulating Russell Wilson in practice in an effort to get Steelers defenders comfortable before their first meeting with the scrambling quarterback.

“I just have to do whatever I’m asked to do,” Vick said of his demotion to third-string following the solid play of Landry Jones in the absence of Vick and starter Ben Roethlisberger. “I’m not in a position to cry about it or talk about it. I have to be the consummate pro right now.”

In the last couple of years of the Dick LeBeau era, running quarterbacks gave the Steelers fits, and despite Keith Butler signalling a changing of the guard at defensive coordinator, pessimistic Pittsburgh fans expected more of the same when Colin Kaepernick and the 49ers came to town in Week 2.

Instead, the unit’s athletic linebackers and dominant D-line kept the agile athlete in check, en route to a 43-18 rout for the Steelers’ first win of 2015.

Heading into Seattle against a 5-5 ‘Hawks team just starting to find their groove will be a challenge of a far greater magnitude, but it seems the Steelers are doing all they can to prepare.
