Stephen Curry Targeting Atlanta Hawks Return

Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry intends to return to the court for the team’s next game.

According to ESPN,Curry hopes to be included in the roster on Friday when the Warriors play the Atlanta Hawks.

The two-time MVP has missed the last five games for the Golden State Warriors. He sustained the injury on March 8 during a home game against the San Antonio Spurs.

Stephen Curry will have his ankle re-evaluated today with a view to playing on Friday. Golden State is understandably cautious with Curry. This is his 4th ankle injury this season alone.

The initial injury was not thought to be serious. However, the Warriors wanted to give him enough time to recover with the postseason fast approaching. Curry will have two full practice days and a shoot around before a decision is made on his involvement on Friday.

During his latest absence, the Golden State Warriors’ record is 2 – 3. It is 13 – 8 when he has been injured this year, and 40 – 10 when he’s been available.

This NBA season, Stephen Curry is averaging 26.3 points, 6.2 assists and 5.1 rebounds per game. He is shooting 50 percent from the field and 42 percent from beyond the arc.

Golden State is 53-18, 3½ games back of the Houston Rockets for the top spot in the Western Conference standings.

Curry is one of a few Warriors’ players who are currently sidelined. Klay Thompson has missed the last 5 games with a fractured right thumb. He will be assessed on Tuesday, although Golden State is unconfident about a quick return.

Forward Kevin Durant will miss at least another week with a broken rib. Reserve guard Omri Casspi, who is out with an ankle injury, is listed as day-to-day.

The Warriors plan to take Tuesday off after completing a two-game, three-day trip in Phoenix and San Antonio. The Warriors will then resume practice on Wednesday and Thursday before Friday’s game against Atlanta at Oracle Arena.
