Steve Kerr Signs Extension with Golden State Warriors

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has signed a contract extension with the team, it was announced on Tuesday.

The terms of the agreement were not released by the back-to-back NBA champions, as per team policy.

Golden State Warriors general manager Bob Myers expressed his delight over signing Steve Kerr to an extension.

“We’re excited to have Steve under contract and poised to lead our team for the next several years,” he said.

“Under his guidance, we’ve been fortunate enough to win three NBA titles in four years and his ability to thrive in all facets of his job is certainly a primary reason for our success. He’s a terrific coach, but more importantly an incredible human being.”

Steve Kerr was originally names as Warriors head coach in May of 2014. Since then, he has written himself into history and set several new records.

Golden State has won three NBA Championships in four seasons under Kerr. He joins Phil Jackson and John Kundla as the only head coaches in NBA history to win three titles in their first four years.

Kerr has a playoff record of 63 – 29. This is the highest winning percentage in NBA history among coaches who have coached at least 25 playoff games.

In each of Kerr’s four seasons, the Warriors have recorded 58 or more wins. Only the Boston Celtics, Milwaukee Bucks, Philadelphia 76ers and the LA Lakers have achieved the same feat.

Kerr also owns the record for the best four year run in NBA history. His overall regular season record is 265-63, or .808.

He is the only other coach apart from Pat Riley to win a divisional title in each of their first four coaching seasons.
