Tua Tagovailoa To Make First NFL Start Against the Rams

The Miami Dolphins have passed the quarterback torch from Ryan Fitzpatrick to Tua Tagovailoa ahead of it’s bye week.

The 2020 No.5 Draft pick has been one of the most hotly anticipated rookie NFL quarterbacks in years.

Coach Brian Flores has understandably eased the potential franchise face into action. Tua Tagovailoa sustained a season ending hip injury last season against Mississippi State.

During Sunday’s sweep of the New York Jets, Tua Tagovailoa replaced Ryan Fitzpatrick for his official debut. It is expected that his first NFL start will come on November 01 against the Los Angeles Rams.

Veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick’s role as a mentor is now formalized. The 37-year old already has the gratitude of Tua for guiding him through the first six weeks of the season.

“To just be out there with my teammates, being my first time and getting the support and love from them, I think that was awesome,” Tua said.

“Then you have a 16-year vet like Fitz who has no animosity towards it as well, who has just been supportive the entire time. Good drive, bad drive he comes to the sideline and talks through his process about why he did some things.

“I’m very fortunate to have a mentor like him who is very encouraging on the field and he’s very personable off the field as well.”

“22 years of my life and you take five years off of that and that’s how long I’ve been playing this sport so it wasn’t more so butterflies, it was just excitement to get out there and see what plays (offensive coordinator) Chan (Gailey) would give me to run with the offense,” Tua said.

“It was really fun.”
