Yankees’ Gleyber Torres Has 10 HRs This Season Versus Orioles

New York Yankees shortstop Gleyber Torres owns the Orioles. However, the 22-year old Yankees shortstop is trying not to believe that. Torres said he knows how well he hit the ball in the Yankees series at Baltimore. Although tries not to think too much about that.

Several hitters across the majors have hit well against Orioles pitching early this season, as the Baltimore pitching staff as already allowed 105 home runs in just 49 games.

However, no other player has put up the numbers against Baltimore that the Yankees’ Gleyber Torres has. This season, the Yankees and Orioles have played 11 games against one another and Torres has hit 10 home runs. The Yankees shortstop has hit a total of 12 homers for the season.

The most recent display of power against the Orioles by Torres was his two home runs on Wednesday in New York’s 7-5 win at Camden Yards.

Torres hit his first home run of the game on a slider over the plate with the count 1-2 off of Dan Straily, who served up two home runs prior to the Torres one to Thairo Estrada and DJ LeMahieu.

Baltimore manager Brandon Hyde believes Straily served the home up to the Yankees’ shortstop on a platter because of the poor location of the pitch. Hyde added that that the Orioles have a pitching plan for Torres but it does not include pitching the ball over the middle of home plate.

Torres is hitting a just .250 versus every team but the Orioles and is enjoying an average of .465 against Baltimore.

Torres’ second dinger of the night was off a Gabriel Ynoa fastball on the outside corner that the right-handed Torres lined to right field over the high scoreboard.

He has multiple home runs in four games this season and all four have been against Baltimore, with three played at Camden Yards. Torres has hit multiple home runs in six games during his career and five have been against the Orioles.

Not to be outdone, Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez has hit nine home runs this season versus Baltimore including one in Wednesday’s win.
