Zack Martin Extends Contract With Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys have agreed a contract extension with All-Pro right guard Zack Martin, that is reportedly worth $84 million.

The six-year contract extension also includes a guaranteed sum of $40 million, with an additional $20 million signing bonus.

The deal, which runs until 2024, is now done and dusted after a year of uncertainty. The Dallas Cowboys originally tried to tie Zack Martin down during training camp last year. However, talks broke down before significant progress was made.

This year, Zack Martin didn’t take part in organized team activities due to the lack of a long term contract. After progress was made last weekend, the player attended the first two days of the Dallas Cowboys’ minicamp.

It may seem like posturing on Martin’s part, but this wasn’t the case. While he did put negotiations on hold last year, he did state his desire to remain with the Dallas Cowboys.

However, the negotiations were complicated. Talks actually began early in the offseason, but the two parties reached an impasse.

Now though, Martin will be the highest-paid guard in the NFL and among the highest-paid offensive linemen.

Martin was drafted No. 16 overall  by the Dallas Cowboys in the first round in the 2014 NFL Draft.

At the time, this was controversial, as the team signed Martin over Johnny Manziel. The Texas A&M quarterback Manziel was a favorite of Jerry Jones. However, it’s fair to say that the decision has worked out for Dallas.

Martin is yet to miss an NFL game so far in his career. He has been named to the Pro Bowl in all four seasons, twice in the first team and twice in the second team.
