NBA News: Jason Terry Agrees To One-Year Deal With Houston Rockets
The Houston Rockets are coming off one of their most successful seasons in recent memory. James Harden and company were able to reach the Western Conference Finals after pulling off an incredible comeback in their playoff series with the Los Angeles Clippers.
Unfortunately for Houston, the Rockets lost one of their best players to the Clippers this summer with Josh Smith choosing to sign with Los Angeles. Although Smith has left the team, the Rockets were able to retain one of their valuable veterans in the form of Jason Terry, according to Calvin Watkins of ESPN:
Free-agent guard Jason Terry has informed the Houston Rockets he will return to the team, according to a source.
Terry will sign a one-year deal for the veteran minimum.
In 77 games with the Rockets last season, Terry averaged 7.0 points, 1.9 assists and 1.6 rebounds per game while shooting 42.2 percent from the floor and 39.0 from beyond the arc. Decent numbers for a 37-year-old guard playing 21.3 minutes per game.
Along with bringing back Terry for another season, the Rockets made a trade recently to acquire veteran point guard Ty Lawson from the Denver Nuggets. Lawson will likely be the starter right out of the gate for Houston next season with Patrick Beverley and Terry backing him up.
Houston will be sporting a strong starting lineup led by Harden, Lawson, Trevor Ariza, Terrance Jones and Dwight Howard to start the upcoming season with a decent chance of securing a top seed in the Western Conference once again. The Golden State Warriors, San Antonio Spurs and Clippers are getting all the buzz for being legitimate title contenders, but the Rockets will be a force to be reckoned with.
