Chris Paul agrees to a deal with Clippers for farewell tour

After 20 seasons in the NBA, veteran point guard Chris Paul has announced that he will play only one more year.

With Paul’s career coming to an end after the 2025-26 NBA season, the future Hall of Famer wanted to play somewhere close to his children, who live in Los Angeles. That left only a handful of options, with a reunion with the LA Clippers being the most likely scenario.

On Monday, Paul decided to return to the Clippers for his farewell tour, according to Shams Charania of ESPN.

Free agent point guard Chris Paul has agreed to a deal with the LA Clippers for his expected final, 21st NBA season, CAA’s Steven Heumann, Ty Sullivan and Jessica Holtz told ESPN.

Paul landing with the Clippers makes a lot of sense, as he had arguably his most success with the franchise and addresses a short-term need for the team. The Milwaukee Bucks, Charlotte Hornets and Dallas Mavericks were among other interested teams, via ESPN.

Paul, 40, had multiple suitors such as the Milwaukee Bucks, Charlotte Hornets and Dallas Mavericks, but the 12-time All-Star chose the contending Clippers and their shared history in Los Angeles. Paul told “The Pat McAfee Show” in June that he was determined to play his 21st season near his family, who live in Los Angeles.

Along with bringing in Paul, the Clippers acquired several notable veterans this summer. Bradley Beal, Brook Lopez and John Collins will also join Paul in Los Angeles to play alongside stars Kawhi Leonard and James Harden.
